Ninja Boy French Fry
October 2010-April 2011
We lost our dear classroom pet on Monday. While many of the students were saddened, it was a great opportunity to revisit life cycles and to share our feelings. Alex Z brought in a book about losing pets and we all wrote a letter to Ninja Boy today. The children were encouraged to write whatever they felt. We brainstormed some things we might want to write. Here are some things the children had to say:
- You are a great fish
- We were happy to have you as a class pet
- I want to write a song for you
- I love you, Ninja Boy
- You were the greatest fish in the whole world
- You were the greatest fish in the whole universe
After writing our letters, we went outside, chose a spot in the butterfly garden, said our last goodbyes and buried him. Some even said a little prayer afterwards. Then... they all ran off to play! Seriously! :)
Watch for the letters they wrote. It was a wonderful learning experience for all of us.
